Joanna Kean: Family’s Dream Holiday Blog

Above is the flag of France presented in an artistic way.

For many years, I always have been a fan of Paris: the town of love, romance and light. So does my family and my Korean friend. It is our shared interest to often talk about the fascinating stories that happened in Paris.

Beside is a collage of Paris’ most famous locations. It is called the city of love as the places are mostly suitable for romantic events, accompanied by songs such as ‘La Vie en Rose.’

‘La Vie en Rose’ sang by Edith Piaf (the first and original version).

But since the start of 2020, a terrible pandemic has spread into every corners of the world. There is no escape no matter where you were, which led to most of the countries having emergency lockdowns. Malaysia, the country I am living in, was one of the countries that were having a lockdown.

To stop the spreading of the Corona virus (Covid-19) and in addition to the lockdown, the countries added a rule which broke hearts of many: the rule of ‘no travelling to different countries/states during this lockdown’. Indeed, my heart was broken as well.

Before the lockdown, my family and I were planning to travel to Paris for a vacation with my dear friend. Sadly as mentioned above, the dream was ruined by the horrendous virus.

To ease the hearts of my family, my friend, and I, I have decided to photoshop ourselves into a scenic location in Paris, France (shown below) using the app ‘Adobe Photoshop’. It is a place called the Arc de Triomphe. It is famous as it is an emblematic symbol capital of France and also represents the various victories of the French army under Napoleon, who commissioned its construction. The Arc de Triomphe is, along with the Eiffel Tower, one of the main symbols of Paris.

My parents (on the right side of the photo), my friend (on the left side of the photo), and me (in between my parents and Taeyou).

As you can see in the picture above, all of us are at the Arc de Triomphe of Paris, France. In order to increase the atmosphere of the photo to make it look like as if we were in Paris truly, I added some elements and representative symbols of France into the photo. Below is the list of elements I added:

  • My father (wearing a dark blue cardigan and blue jeans) holding the flag of France.
  • My mother (wearing a baby blue coat), wearing a black beret on the top of her head.
  • Me (wearing a pink Cheongsam and a black mask) holding a French baguette.
  • Text of ‘We are at the Arc de Triomphe of Paris!’ at the bottom of the photo.

Hopefully by next year’s time in 2022, the Covid-19 situation will finally disappear from all of our lives. As I just fully became a teenager last year (in 2020), I definitely would not like to spend the rest of my teenage years at home! How I wish that dream holiday of mine, shared with my family and friend, will execute at last.

‘Never give up on a dream just because of the time it will take to accomplish it. The time will pass anyway.’
